Free Bulb Workshop– Fall is for planting. The Green Team invites you to participate in a bulb workshop on Sunday, October 13th following the second service meeting in the Battin room. We are using the same model as we did for the spring workshops. There is no cost for this workshop. No RSVP is required. The workshop will share information on how bulbs grow and how to have success with them in your garden. Each participant will be receiving bulbs for home use as this is the best time of year to plant hardy bulbs. Spring bulbs not only bring promises of spring but they provide food for pollinators early in the season.
River of Crocus-The Green Team is looking for a couple of volunteers to assist in the planting of a thousand crocus in the front yard of the church property. We have ordered bulbs that will deliver a show in early spring. The bulbs were purchased through the Green Team’s two pop up fundraisers- veggie sale on Mother’s Day and the Peony Stroll. Each volunteer would be expected to bring their own gloves, trowel and something to kneel or sit on. The green team will supply the crocus, fertilizer and will assist in digging the holes. The bulbs will be planted in the lawn at a depth of one to two inches. Demonstrations will be provided. Volunteers should arrive at 9:00am and there will be a table set up in the front lawn of the church with the supplies and directions. Give us an hour or more and we can make swift work of this project.
This is one of the beautification projects that the Green Team has decided to work on for the fall. The species crocus sprout and bloom before most daffodils bloom. They will be planted in mass for a larger impact running down the hill from the church to Concord Road. The idea is to have passersby notice the blooming river that leads the eyes up to the historic church. Another project on the drawing board to enhance the front property includes planting dogwood trees to replace those that have died over time. These two efforts will enhance the church grounds, the environment and make it more inviting. Please join us on Saturday, October 26th. No RSVP required- more volunteers the merrier.
